Data recovery: in Miami, it’s split between two different groups. One group does data recovery for household computers, the other handles major businesses — sometimes, you’ll find an outfit that does both with equal ease, but it’s rare. Big businesses don’t always care that much about cost when it comes to data recovery; after all, their other option is to stop doing business, and that’s not much of an option.
Household clients, on the other hand, are in a more desperate situation, at least emotionally. They don’t have business charts and numbers on their computer, they have their lives. They also don’t have deep deep Jacques Coustaeu pockets to pay for their data recovery service with.
Fortunately, data recovery doesn’t have to be expensive in Miami. There are a few conditions that can radically lower the price.
Time
If you don’t need your data back right now, you can often get a significant discount on your recovery costs by simply waiting. Not only can you save up some money over a few months (which makes it easier), but you can also watch for data recovery specialists to put on a sale — like any good business, they do that from time to time.
Free Evaluations
Several shops will let you drop off your medium of choice — almost always a hard drive for a home client — and then they’ll give you an estimate of their cost. More importantly, a reputable company will tell you outright if your data is unrecoverable, which can save you hundreds of dollars trying to get back information that is well and truly gone.
Don’t Go Super-Cheap
Don’t lie to yourself — any reputable company will charge you a few to several hundred dollars to recover the information on a damaged hard drive. If someone tells you that they’ll do it for $200, they’re outright lying to you — parts alone almost always run that high. If you go with the cheapest available option, you’re basically guaranteeing that what you’ll get is someone saying “sorry, but your data was unrecoverable after all”.
